What is Edaptio?
Edaptio is a platform that enables students to take online courses, with content and feedback. Educators employ Edaptio to allow students to view material, submit work ("Submissions") and provide feedback (“feedback"). This is accomplished through the use of the Edaptio Website. Students can have their own account. Students must have a student account created at school, receive a unique code from their teacher to create their own account with a password and an email address, or login via a Single-Sign On integration between the Educational Institution and Edaptio, for example WAYF, Google or Microsoft in order to establish one. The administrators of educational institutions (also known as "Institutional Admins") are also significant participants on Edaptio. They can see a summary of classes, pupils, and instructors connected to their institution. Educational Institution Staff have full access to all courses related to the institution and may also establish new lessons, add or remove teachers from an institution, and view content connected to an institution. More information on how the Service operates is located in and your participation and use of the Service is governed by our Terms of Service (“Terms”).How does Edaptio safeguard students' personal information?
We are educators, students and parents ourselves, after all, which makes safeguarding children's privacy especially significant to us. COPPA protects the online privacy of minors under the age of 13 (“child” or "children"), for more information about COPPA and generally protecting children's online privacy, please visit OnGuard Online. What data does Edaptio obtain from children, and how is it used?
We require the minimal amount of data from students in order to use our Service. Student accounts are presently established in one of three ways: (1) by the student's instructor; (2) by the student if the teacher chooses to give a Class Code; or (3) by the institution when signing in using a Single Sign-On.Students do not need to supply any personal information when logging into a school account set up by a teacher or using Single Sign-On. Students will use the email and password they created if they have established their own account. If a student's educational institution or instructor chooses to use student accounts on a shared device (or any other devices) at the school, the school will be responsible for obtaining any required parental consent under COPPA in order to establish the student account on behalf of the student and allow them access. Another alternative is for a teacher to allow students to create their own account using the unique code provided by the instructor. Students are asked to provide their name, an email address, a password, and the unique code given to them by their teacher in order to connect with the class when they set up their own Edaptio account. The Class Code will be ignored and instead of the Class Code, they will log into their account using the email address and password. The teacher has informed Edaptio that they have obtained any necessary parental consent before inviting the students via the Class Code, in accordance with COPPA requirements. Student submissions, debates and conversations Students will be able to upload and/or write contributions, submit assignments and reactions, and participate in discussions with students in their class all of which may be collected by Edaptio after a student account is established (whether created by the student's teacher or Educational Institution or the student themselves). Depending on the settings of the Assignment to which the submission is uploaded, an uploaded contribution can be a picture or video file or any other sort of file. The students themselves, other students in the class, and the student's instructors and educational institution staff have access to the User Submission. If a school or instructor decides to utilise student accounts in the classroom, it will be responsible for securing any necessary parental consent under COPPA.Other data and content
In addition to the data outlined above, we automatically gather certain information from any use of our Service as set forth in the “Information collected automatically” section. We use this information to deliver the Service to the child, for security and safety reasons, as needed by law, or to enforce our Terms. To take part in the Service, children are not required to submit more personal information than is reasonably necessary. If we learn that we have gathered information from a child in violation of COPPA, we will take the appropriate measures to either remove the data or get permission from the parent right away. Except to service providers who are necessary to provide the Service, as required by law, or to protect the security of the Service and other users' security, we do not share children's personal information to third parties. We do not in any regard sell children's personal information to third parties. Personal information from students is never utilised for behaviorally-targeted advertising to children by us or any third party, and youngsters' personal information is never sold or rented to anybody, including marketers and advertisers.Email notifications
If a student, their teacher, or an educational institution supplied the student's email address, Edaptio may send emails for example, stating that a deadline is approaching and informing them that another group member submitted their work. Using your account settings, you may also turn off additional email notifications. If you're a kid or teacher who no longer wants these communications to be delivered, please change the email alerts in your account settings to OFF or privacy@edaptio.com.What Information about Children Is Available to Others?
Edaptio does not provide access to or make any student's account, or Submission available to the public. Although you may access the Service from anywhere in the world, only a student at a participating institution, as well as their instructors and Educational Institution Staff, can view the student's account and User Submissions. A child can publish content to the Service (such as a photo or video) only through their student account. A child's teacher or educational institution must notify Edaptio that they have obtained any necessary parental consent before a student account can be set up. A child's student account is not viewable by the general public. Students' account info (name, email address, and username) as well as material generated in a class will be visible to other students under specific circumstances if the teacher has enabled group contributions. Group submissions are an example of this. During the course of a typical Assignment in Edaptio students will have access to the submissions of other students in the class they must review, as well as evaluations from other pupils in the class who submitted their work. Teachers may also share their classes, including Submissions, with other teachers. The Educational Institution Staff will have access to the teacher's lessons and User Submissions in those lessons if the educator is a member of an educational institution. The teacher may not publish a list of their classes or assignments on the website. User Submissions and Classes are not available to the general public. Please keep in mind that if a teacher decides to use Edaptio in their class, pupils who are physically present in the classroom can view other students' names, assignment progress, and scores - This is how a paper-based sticker chart would operate in a classroom. If some of this data should be kept private, instructors may choose to hide Edaptio in various ways, such as not displaying it on a screen during class. How long does Edaptio keep student data?
Except if we are required by law to retain it, need it to maintain the security of our community or our Service, or to enforce our Terms, we will keep a child's personal information until his or her student account is deleted. We de-identify data by users that have not been active in the last six months after two years.Parental Choices
If you are the parent or legal guardian of a child who has established an Edaptio account and have not received notification or been asked for permission by the child's school (as per COPPA), you should contact the instructor and school that set up the account for your child. Parents may refuse to allow us to obtain further personal information from their children at any moment and can demand that we erase the personal information we have obtained from their kid by contacting the account's creator. Please be advised that record deletion will necessitate the closure of the account in question. What data does Edaptio collect?
We acquire two types of information about you: (1) information that you volunteer to us by using the Edaptio Service (described below under "Information You Provide to Us") and (2) data gathered automatically as a result of your use of the Service (described above under "Information collected automatically"). Depending on whether the user is a student, teacher, or staff member of an educational institution (e.g., we collect less information from students), and how they use Edaptio (e.g., if teachers join their Educational Institution on Edaptio, we may need to collect school address information).Data you provide to us
There are three categories of users on our Service at the moment: students, instructors, and administration staff. In the section above, we described the information collected from children under the age of 13; for other users, we collect and store the following types of information from each type of user:Account data
You may be required to fill out some basic information, such as your first and last name, the name of your educational institution, email address, and password, in order to create an Edaptio account as a teacher or Education Institution Staff. A student's account is established in the following ways: (1) by the student's instructor; or (2) if the teacher elects to enroll the student in a Class Code, then by the student; or (3) when logging in via a Single Sign-On integration, by the Education Institution. The student's parent or teacher will have notified Edaptio that they've gotten all necessary parental consent before the student account is established. The student's name and school information will be provided to Edaptio when the class is set up by the teacher. This information is then used to establish the student account. Students may create an account for the Service by entering their teacher's provided unique code (students are unable to sign up for the Service without this), their name, a distinct user name or email address and password. In this case, the student’s teacher or Educational Institution will have represented to Edaptio that they have obtained any necessary parental consent, as per COPPA. The Service does not provide or expose student profiles to the general public. If a teacher has given their consent, their profiles may be made available to the public.School data, collaboration and content
If you are a teacher or educational institution employee, you may choose to connect your account with an existing school or establish a new one by entering the name and perhaps the address of your school if we do not already have it. The Service may allow and provide extra collaboration capabilities for teachers and Educational Institution Staff within the same educational institution, such as sharing lessons or classes, through connecting you with your Educational Institution.Class data
As a school administrator, you'll be required to enter the class name as well as the names of students in your class. It is up to the instructor to decide what information they include here; for example, John S or John Smith could be used. Alternatively, teachers may upload a spreadsheet with the student's first and last names to the Service. The classes that a teacher establishes in Edaptio are shared with instructors and educational institution staff at the Educational Institution if they are employed by an Education Institution.Inviting users
As a teacher or Education Institution Staff, you may invite other instructors (such as coworkers) to join the Service by providing their email addresses in Edaptio. We will take and store the emails you supply with these requests, and we will also treat this as personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. We may also request access to your Google account contacts if you use our app to send invitations, in order for you not to have to supply contact information for those invites. Individuals who wish to have their data removed may send us an email on privacy@edaptio.com if they so desire.Contact data
When you choose to share your personal information with us in some other way through the Service (e.g., when you send us an email asking a question, submit a support request, participate in a video testimonial about our Service, or decide to participate in any research efforts with Edaptio to improve the Service). We make careful use of the data we collect, as described in the "How does Edaptio utilise the information it collects?" section below.Data collected automatically
We (or our service providers) may collect and keep information from your browser or device when you use the Service, just as other web-based services do. This may include the number and duration of your visits to Edaptio, for example (similar to TV ratings that show how many individuals watched a particular program). Edaptio may connect your usage history and preferences to provide a consistent service across your various devices if you use Edaptio on several devices. If we combine any automatically-collected data with personally identifiable information, it will be considered personal information and protected as per this Privacy Policy. The data we automatically collect includes: Cookies, web beacons, and other similar technologies: We (or our service providers) may utilize cookies or similar technology to identify your browser or device. We (or our service providers) may also utilize these technologies in connection with the advertisement of our services on other sites or as part of advertising their goods outside of our Service (e.g., if you view an embedded YouTube video player on our Service, YouTube may place cookies or similar technologies on your browser when you play the video off our site). We do not allow third-party advertisers to advertise directly on our service (such as when an advertiser bids to have an ad placed immediately on a platform like Facebook), but we may provide contextually relevant advertising for third-party goods and services ourselves that we believe are appealing to you. Local storage: We may also utilise, collect, and store data locally on your device using technologies such as browser web storage (including HTML 5) and application data caches. Edaptio, like many other providers, employs these technologies to analyse trends, collect demographic data, comprehend your engagement with the Edaptio Website, administer the Service, customise the Service for you, and assist the Service in working better for you – for example by remembering your language preferences. Device information: We take the following information: device type, brand, operating system, hardware version, settings, file and software names and types, battery and signal strength, as well as device identifiers. We will use this data to track how the Service is performing and provide Edaptio updates on your device. Server log information: When you use our Service, as with other online services, we collect and store certain information in our server logs. This data is tremendously useful when making future product and feature decisions. For example, it may show which features are most (or least!) popular, allowing us to make informed judgments about what we should focus on next. IP AddressInformation received from third-party sources
We may also obtain information, including personal information, from third-party sources to update or supplement the data you supplied or collected automatically (such as data gathered from a student information system or learning management system). Before we may get your information, local law might need you to give permission for the third party to share it with us. This might include aggregated anonymous data or specific personal information that is given to us. If we acquire personal information from third parties, we will adhere to this Privacy Policy. We will consider any personal information that we combine with information obtained from other third parties in order to provide you with a better service, and we will handle it in accordance with this Privacy Policy. We may also utilise any aggregated anonymous data provided by third parties as specified below under the heading "Aggregated Information and Non-Identifying Information."How does Edaptio use the data it collects?
First and foremost, you should be aware that Edaptio does not sell or rent any of your, or your child's, personal information to third-parties for any reason – including advertising or marketing. In the section "Will Edaptio share any information it collects?" We state that to the extent permitted by law, Edaptio does not sell or rent personal data to third parties. Only in specific circumstances described in this section will Edaptio give away sensitive information. Edaptio does not allow third-party advertising on any pages where students are required to log in, and personally identifiable information from students is never utilised for behaviorally-targeted advertising to them (by us or third parties). We utilise the data we gather from you to provide you with a superior Edaptio experience. This information, more specifically, is utilised to: Develop new products and features, based on information you have provided directly (through support chat) or that we have collected in aggregate, as part of the Service. Respond to any email, request for information, or customer support you may receive. Customise the Service for you, and improve your experience with it Send you notifications about changes to our policies and services. To safeguard our community, we must make certain that the Service is safe and secure. We collect automatically generated information (described in the "Information collected automatically" section above) to provide and support our Service, as well as for additional purposes described in this portion of our Privacy Policy. Will Edaptio share any data it collects?
The first and most important thing to know is that Edaptio does not sell or rent your (or your child's) personal information to third parties for any reason, including advertising or marketing. Third-party advertising is not permitted on sections of Edaptio where users must log in and personally identifiable information obtained from students is never utilized for behaviorally targeted advertising to children (by us or third parties). Furthermore, we do not share personal information with any third parties except as permitted under this Privacy Policy and as set forth below:Other Users with whom You Share and Communicate on Edaptio

Furthermore, students are not permitted to disclose their account information with anyone outside of their instructors and school administrators. If you are a teacher or school leader, you may choose to share information or content through the Service with other Edaptio teachers, school leaders, or students – for example, your account information, student feedback (if you are a teacher or school leader), and other data you provide to teachers and school leaders you interact with via Edaptio. Keep in mind that information (including personal Information or children's personal information) or material you choose to offer to others - including other Edaptio users you interact with through the Service, such as messages you may send to other individuals or school leaders you collaborate with – can be accessed, copied, saved, and utilised by the people you disclose it to. We cannot control the actions of individuals with whom you choose to communicate information and we are not liable for the gathering, usage, or disclosure of such information or content by others.Third-party integrations on Edaptio

Your Edaptio account is protected by a password. You can assist us in keeping your account secure by keeping your password to yourself at all times. We are committed to safeguarding your personal information. We make every effort to keep our community secure, and we use administrative, technical, and physical measures to guard against unlawful access to personal information. In particular: Our engineers are committed to keeping your personal information secure. We review our information collection, storage, and processing procedures on a regular basis to ensure that they are secure against unlawful practices. We continue to create and implement new features to keep your personal information secure - for example, when you input any information on the site, we encrypt the transmission of that data using secure socket layer encryption (SSL/TLS) by default. We use encryption and salted hashing to ensure that passwords are safely stored and sent. The Edaptio Service is hosted on third-party servers, with whom we have a contract that includes improved security precautions. Personal information, for example, is kept on a server with industry-standard firewalls. Furthermore, the hosting facility includes a 24 hour security system, video surveillance, intrusion detection systems, and locked cage areas. Despite our best efforts to maintain security, personal information is not immune from theft or loss, and we can't promise the security of data. Security risks can affect user information in a variety of ways, including: natural disasters, power outages, cyber attacks, human error, system failure, unauthorised access or other factors. We will try to notify you electronically (subject to any applicable laws) if we discover a security breach, so that you can take appropriate precautionary action; for example, we may publish a warning on our website (www.edaptio.com) or elsewhere on the Service, and we may send email to the email address you have provided us. Depending on where you reside, you may have a legal right to be notified in writing of a security breach. Is it possible for me to opt-out of providing data?

In certain circumstances, we may not be able to ensure full access due to legal limitations, such as the inability to read files that contain information about other users or are confidential to us. You may change, alter, or remove portions of your profile information or preferences at any time by going to your account on Edaptio and editing your account settings. You may be asked to show proof of your identity in order to change it. We will respond to your request within a reasonable time period. Take a look at our "Parental Choices" section to see how you can obtain copies of your child's personal information. We may decline requests for access, modification, or removal that are deemed to be needlessly frequent, overly technical (for example, creating a new system or entirely changing an established practice), put the privacy of others at risk, or would be extremely impractical (requests pertaining to information stored on backup systems). We will provide information access and correction on a free basis with the exception of situations in which this would be deemed overly demanding. We strive to keep our services operating in a secure way that protects data from unintentional or intentional loss. Because of this, even if you remove or modify personal information that you have supplied us through our Service, it may be kept in our backup files and archives for a reasonable period of time for legal reasons or as long as is necessary in light of the purposes for which such records were collected or lawfully processed. How can I delete my account?
We hope you enjoy using Edaptio and have enjoyed the program. If you ever want to cancel your account (or your child's account, if you are his or her teacher), please contact us at privacy@edaptio.com immediately. When you cancel your account, we delete all of your profile information and any other material you submit in your profile (such as name, username, password, email address) and, depending on the category of user you are (i.e., instructor, school leader or student), comments and data collected through the mobile permissions you've granted. How long does Edaptio keep track of my data?
We retain your personal information as long as it is helpful for us to provide you with products and services, including the ones listed above. Unless we no longer require the data to provide products and services, your account information will be kept until you delete your account. Please note that after your account is closed, we may have to keep some information in order to comply with legal obligations, to protect the safety and security of our community or Service, or to prevent abuse of our Terms. You may cancel your membership at any time. Please also be aware that even if your account is canceled, messages sent between instructors and pupils are kept to assist schools with record keeping or compliance requirements. This includes, for example, any material uploaded that we believe to be student-to-teacher messaging. What notifications and communications will I receive from Edaptio?

We'll also use your email address to contact you for customer service purposes, or for any legal issues that might arise as a result of our business. If you invite someone to join you on Edaptio by providing their email address, we may contact them using the most appropriate medium of communication. We may make modifications to this Privacy Policy at any time. You can check the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page to determine when the last change was made. We won't compromise your rights under this Privacy Policy without your express consent. If we make significant changes, we'll post a notice on the Service and/or notify you by email (using the email address you provided), so you can review and ensure that you're aware of them. We will also notify teachers if we make significant modifications to the kinds of personal information we acquire from children or how we utilise it. Please remember to check this Privacy Policy from time to time to stay informed about the Service's collection, use, and disclosure of personal information. If you disagree with any changes to the Privacy Policy, you may cancel your membership. You acknowledge that if you continue to utilise the Service following the revised Privacy Policy becoming effective, you accept and agree to the current version of the Privacy Policy.California Privacy law
Currently, several browsers provide a "do not track" or "DNT" option that uses a technology known as a DNT header to send a message to Web sites visited by the user about the user's browser DNT choice. Due to the no-tracking policy, Edaptio does not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals since it does not monitor its users over time and across third-party websites. For more information on “do not track”, please visit www.allaboutdnt.org. If you are a minor, or the parent of a minor under the age of 13, and want to erase personal information stored about your account or material you uploaded through it. We provide deletion tools on our Service, but you should be aware that the removal of material may not guarantee complete or comprehensive removal of that content or information, as there may be de-identified or recoverable elements of your stuff in some form on our servers.
